1 Lhasa

It is one of the three holy lake in Tibet, the second largest saltwater lake in China only after Qinghai Lake, and the highest altitude saltwater lake in the world. 4 The Jokhang Temple
The Jokhang Temple, located in the centre of old Lhasa, was originally built in 647 AD by Songtsen Gampo. Jokhang Temple is the most glorious existing tubo period buildings, and also the oldest civil structure building, which started the temples of the layout of Tibetan style type. With the integration of the Tibetan, Nepal, and India's architectural styles, The Jokhang Temple is a model of Tibetan religious architectures for the ages.

How to Enter Tibet


Considering the special ethnic traditions, the cultural relics, the environmental protection and the transportation capacity of Tibet, when non-Chinese citizens, including foreign tourists, Taiwan tourists and overseas Chinese travel to China, you need not only a Chinese Visa but also Tibet permit. The only way to enter Tibet is to travel in groups. Non individual travelers are allowed to travel to Tibet at the moment. All tours must be booked in advance by a Chinese travel agency. Your whole Tibet tours must be accompanied by a licensed tour guide.


There are overall four documents required for foreign tourists who want to travel freely in Tibet. One is the Chinese Visa, which you can apply for in Chinese Embassy in your country, one is Tibet Permit, which you have to obtain it in advance in order to enter places like Lhasa in Tibet, one is the Alien's Travel Permit when you are planning to travel to the closed areas in Tibet which you can obtain it after you arrive in Tibet, and the other is the Military Permit, which you have to obtain if you are planning to travel to some military sensitive areas.


Please prepare the following documents before asking your travel agent to apply permit.
1. A copy of your Passport;
2. A copy of your China visa (tourist visa);
3. Full names, Gender, Date of Birth, Passport number, Nationality, Occupation.

Ways to enter Tibet
The best way to Tibet is to take a plane, there are several routes available to get to Lhasa of Tibet.

    Guangzhou-Lhasa, daily flight, all around the year available

Enter Tibet from Nepal
According to Chinese Law, travelers who enter Tibet from Nepal or India are required to apply for Group Tourist Visa. This visa must be obtained at Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. Travelers have to enter China and leave China in a specified period of time which is given according to tour itinerary provided by travel agency and no more than 30 days. This visa is usually not placed in your passport, but is a sheet of paper that lists all of the names of the people in your group along with their nationalities, birth dates and passport numbers. This group visa is usually not able to extend.  To obtain a China Visa in Nepal, you will need to allow about 4 days in Nepal for the visa application and Tibet permit to be processed. It takes at least 2 working days (Any day among Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) to obtain a visa from the Chinese Embassy in Nepal.
